Job Description

Redwoods Rural Health Center is seeking an Senior Accountant to join our team. After successful completion of the training period, this role will shift to a hybrid work schedule, combining on-site and remote work.

The ideal candidate should possess a deep understanding of accounting principles, a proven record of advising on business and tax matters, and a passion for excellence. In this role, you'll collaborate with our team, lead special projects and will be responsible for a company’s financial procedures, records and statements for compliance with laws and regulations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Analyzing complex financial reports and records
• Overseeing billing and ensuring accuracy
• Overseeing the vendors' payments and ensuring accuracy
• Performing variance analyses and preparing account reconciliations
• Assisting with bank, financial, and tax audits
• Documenting and monitoring internal controls
• Coordinating more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments
• Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and alert the CFO if necessary.
• Coordinate semi-annual audits and assist the CFO in running audits.
• Reconcile accounts monthly to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
• Delegate financial responsibilities to the accounting team
• Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions.
• Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information.
• Maintains and balances subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, posting, and reconciling transactions and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintains general ledger by transferring subsidiary accounts, preparing a trial balance, and reconciling entries.
• Summarizes financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other documents.
• Supporting month-end and year-end close
• Preparing financial statements, journal entries and account reconciliations
• Assessing internal controls, including risk assessments and reviews of risk areas
• Collaborates closely with the Finance Director and/or CFO in the development of annual operational, capital, and federal budgets that support the organization’s long and short-range plans and objectives and reflects the board approved strategic plan.
Supervising accounting staff

GENERAL LEDGER
• Perform month-end closing procedures
• Research and correct any out-of-balance situations between the GL and sub-ledger
• Analyze, amortize, and reconcile prepaid accounts
• Prepare assigned journal entries
• Prepare assigned general ledger reconciliations
• Review general ledger reconciliations prepared by others
• Prepare monthly commissions.

ACCOUNTING OPERATIONS
• Oversee the parcel billing, payments, and reconciliations
• Review and approve AP payments
• Review and release wire/ACH payments
• Oversee Grants Receivables and related activities
• Evaluate policies and procedures annually to ensure that they are relevant
• Assists the Finance Director and/or CFO in identifying undesirable trends and potential business opportunities.
• Complete special projects and reports, as requested by the Finance Director and/or CFO.
• Identify and implement technology, automation, and outsourcing opportunities to drive efficiency

QUALIFICATIONS
• A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a similar major is required
• Must have at least 5 years’ experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a healthcare setting

• Knows the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
• Demonstrates strong technical accounting skills
• Shows strong leadership skills and manages a growing accounting team

ANNUAL PAY AND BENEFITS
• Annual compensation $85,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year depending on qualifications.
• Four-day, 10 hours per day work week (not all positions will qualify for 4 days a week benefit)
