Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented Import Clerk to support import operations by handling documentation, tracking shipments, and ensuring compliance with U.S. Customs and import regulations. The ideal candidate is organized, deadline-driven, and experienced in international logistics or freight forwarding.
Compensation:
Pay Range: $19.00 per hour to $25.00 per hour
Temporary Position (6 months)
Key Responsibilities:
The Logistics Import Clerk is responsible for overseeing and managing all import
activities to ensure the smooth and efficient handling of shipments from overseas
suppliers. This role involves coordinating with customs brokers, transportation providers,
and internal teams to facilitate accurate and timely importation of goods. The ideal
candidate will have a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of import regulations,
and excellent organizational skills.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Import Documentation and Compliance:
a. Prepare and review import documentation, including commercial invoices,
bills of lading, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
b. Ensure all import documentation is complete, accurate, and complies with
customs regulations.
c. Submit required documents to customs brokers and government agencies
to clear shipments.
2. Customs Coordination:
a. Coordinate with customs brokers and agencies to ensure timely customs
clearance for all imports.
b. Track and monitor shipments to ensure on-time arrival and compliance
with regulatory requirements.
c. Resolve any issues related to customs, duties, and tariffs.
3. Shipment Tracking and Reporting:
a. Track and monitor the progress of shipments, from departure to delivery,
and update stakeholders on the status.
b. Manage import data, update internal systems, and maintain accurate
records of all shipments.
c. Prepare and submit regular reports on import activities, costs, and
performance metrics.
Vendor and Supplier Communication:
a. Liaise with vendors, suppliers, and transportation providers to coordinate
shipments and ensure accurate documentation.
b. Address any discrepancies in shipping documentation or inventory records
with suppliers and resolve issues promptly.
c. Maintain strong working relationships with import-related vendors, such
as freight forwarders and customs brokers.
5. Internal Coordination:
a. Collaborate with internal departments, including purchasing, warehouse,
and accounting, to streamline import processes.
b. Assist in identifying areas for improvement in import operations to
increase efficiency and reduce costs.
c. Support the logistics team with other administrative tasks as needed.
6. Support any import related operation and relate documents filing.
7. Support some export operation and related documents filing and inputting
8. Perform other duties as related to the job function as required.
JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS/COMPETENCIES:
1. High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in logistics, supply
chain, or a related field is a plus.
2. Previous experience in logistics, import/export, or a related field is preferred.
3. Knowledge of customs regulations, import processes, and documentation
requirements.
4. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
7. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
8. Familiarity with import tracking systems or software is an advantage.
