Job Description

Position Summary

We are launching a DIY automotive garage in Fort Wayne where customers can rent bays, lifts,
and tools to work on their own vehicles in a clean, safe, well-organized environment. The owner
is remote, so this role is the on-site manager responsible for daily operations, customer service,
and vendor coordination.

The position starts part-time during the setup phase and transitions to full-time once the garage
is up and running.
Compensation
Part-time during setup: 20-24 $/hr, depending on experience.

Full-time once operating: 24-30 $/hr, depending on experience and level of responsibility.

Potential for a simple performance-based bonus structure (e.g., tied to monthly revenue or
customer satisfaction) after the business is established.

Key Responsibilities
Open and close the garage following standard procedures and checklists.

Greet customers, explain how the DIY bays work, review rules and safety guidelines, and
handle check-in/check-out.
Answer phone calls, emails, and online inquiries; manage the booking system and bay
reservations.
Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and contractors for equipment, tools, and services; be
on-site for deliveries and scheduled work.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment; perform basic visual inspections of bays,
lifts, and tools and report issues promptly.
Process payments, handle basic cash management, and complete daily closeout reports for
the owner.

Enforce shop rules and safety policies, de-escalate customer issues, and escalate serious
incidents to the owner.
Assist in documenting and refining standard operating procedures as the business grows.

Setup Phase Part-Time)

Be on-site for vendor and contractor visits (equipment installation, inspections, internet,
security, signage).
Help with layout decisions for customer flow, front desk, signage, and storage.
Assist with initial inventory (tools, consumables, cleaning supplies) and basic tracking
systems.
Full Operating Phase Full-Time)

Manage daily schedule, bay utilization, and customer flow during operating hours.

Monitor customer experience and provide basic assistance with shop equipment (non
mechanical repairs).
Work with the owner on promotions, events (e.g., DIY classes, themed nights), and local
marketing ideas.

Requirements
Preferred experience:
Automotive service advisor, service manager, shop foreman, or similar role, or
Small business or retail/operations manager in a customer-facing environment.

Strong communication skills and comfort running a location with a remote owner, including
consistent reporting and follow-up.
Solid customer service skills; able to work with both hobbyists and first-time DIY customers.

Basic understanding of automotive repair concepts and shop safety; you do not need to be
a master technician.
Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working some evenings and weekends once the shop is
fully operational.
Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and move light to moderate items such as tools
and supplies.
Reports directly to the owner.
Uses shared cloud systems POS, scheduling, simple reporting templates) to provide daily
and weekly updates on operations, revenue, and issues.
