Job Description

🌟 Barista – Community Coffee House (Ellicott City, MD)
Location: Ellicott City, MD
Type: Part-time / Full-time
Pay: Competitive (to be discussed based on experience)

About Us
We are a non-profit, mission-driven coffee house dedicated to providing job training, mentorship, and community integration for neurodiverse and especially enabled individuals. Our space is vibrant, welcoming, and full of life—featuring full-service coffee drinks, great music, books, merchandise, pastries, and delicious international foods. No two days are ever the same.

This is more than a barista role—it’s an opportunity to be part of something meaningful.

The Opportunity
We are seeking skilled, patient, and collaborative baristas who are passionate about coffee and people. In addition to preparing high-quality beverages, our baristas play a key role in supporting and mentoring neurodiverse trainees during slower periods—helping them learn simple drink preparation and other aspects of the coffee business.

If you are rigid in your thinking or uncomfortable working alongside specially enabled individuals, this position is not a good fit. If you are flexible, open-hearted, and enjoy teaching and learning, we would love to hear from you.

What You’ll Do
Prepare and serve high-quality espresso-based and specialty drinks

Bring creativity and flair to beverages (TikTok-level drink skills are a plus ☕✨)

Maintain a clean, welcoming, and inclusive café environment

Support trainees with hands-on learning during downtime

Collaborate with a diverse, mission-focused team

Engage with customers and help build community

Schedule
Café hours: 6:30 AM – 8:00 PM

Morning staff arrive early for setup; evening staff assist with closing

Summer hours may extend later

What We’re Looking For
Barista experience preferred (but passion and teachability matter most)

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Comfort working with neurodiverse individuals

Flexible, creative, and solutions-oriented mindset

A genuine desire to contribute to a meaningful cause

Coffee lovers and drink mixologists encouraged to apply
