Steel Fabrication Shop Manager

Job description:

We are a structural and architectural steel fabrication company looking for a reliable, organized, and hands-on Shop Manager to oversee daily shop and yard operations. This role is critical to keeping projects moving efficiently from fabrication to delivery.

Responsibilities

Load trucks for deliveries and ensure all parts and materials are prepared accurately and on schedule
Unload incoming trucks and direct materials to the proper storage or staging locations
Receive incoming shipments, verify materials against delivery tickets, and report any discrepancies or damage
Create delivery tickets and material documentation for all outgoing loads
Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop and yard at all times
Monitor and maintain inventory of consumables, shop supplies, and small tools, and purchase miscellaneous items as needed
Coordinate closely with the Project Manager, Shop Foreman, and field teams to align shop output with project schedules
Assist with employee training, provide input on performance, and lead by example in the shop
Work with the Maintenance Manager and Shop Foreman to ensure all shop equipment is operating properly and safely
Ensure cleanliness of all shop facilities, including restrooms and shop office
Complete daily timesheets accurately and on time
Identify workflow issues and suggest improvements to increase efficiency and reduce delays
Enforce basic safety practices and help maintain a safe work environment

Qualifications

Experience in a steel fabrication shop or similar industrial environment preferred
Strong organizational and communication skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Comfortable coordinating between shop, yard, and field crews
Forklift experience preferred (or willingness to obtain certification)
Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to lead by example
