Caregiver, Mentor, Afternoon Helper

A fun, active family is looking for a flexible two (or more!) days a week afternoon position, with occasional weekend hours, for a reliable, caring, outgoing, cheerful, and 100% dependable person to work with our son. Our son is 21 years old, has cerebral palsy, terrific abilities, and uses a pushchair and walker for mobility as well as a computer for communications. During the weekdays, he happily attends Cortney's Place. He is a busy, cheerful, communicative boy who is fun to be around and enjoys community functions, Wii & Xbox games, special baseball, music, inventory of his movies, sports games, hanging out with friends, going to movies, dances, and attending church events.

We're looking for afternoon help 2 or 3 days during the week with occasional weekend evenings for mom and dad to go on a date. Weekday includes picking him up from his day program (shift starts at 3:30 pm and ends about 7:30 pm) coming home and/or driving him to his various activities, hanging out, playing games, reading, go for walks, inventorying his movie collection. There is a small amount of personal care involved. Lifting is minimized with adaptive equipment. Mom provides optimal training in all areas, so no experience is necessary. This is a wonderful position for anyone on a path for PT, OT, Speech Therapy, Nursing, or Special Education.

Our son is a lot of fun, very happy, and likes to be busy. He is an easy young man to like. He is very happy to have helpers, friends, and people who like to be goofy and have fun but most importantly, he really responds well to people who make the effort to interact and be his friend.

We're looking for an outgoing, fun and friendly, cheerful, Energetic, chatty, peppy, responsible person. Drama-free. Someone who can act as a friend, teacher, or mentor. Reliability and punctuality are assumed; This person should have a heart for individuals with special needs, as they will assume the role of mentor and friend. NO DRAMA. Experience is a plus, but none is needed. Age is not important; maturity is. We do all the training...it's not difficult. This is a non-smoking position.

There is NO cleaning, housework, dishes, washing, or anything like that :)

$17.50 to $20 /hour. Looking for a long-term commitment from a fun and friendly person. Age makes no difference and Absolutely no special Ed experience is needed!!
