Job Description

Hello!

My name is William Sanders. I am writing this ad on behalf of myself as well as my partner, Jessica Burns. We are both residents of New Horizons Village in Unionville CT. We have lived together as a couple for almost 8 years.

Our current personal care assistant who fills our morning position has just let us know that they need to discontinue work due to an upcoming Medical procedure with an extensive recovery time as well as a recent move out of the local area.

I am 31 years old and Jessica is 39, we both have Cerebral Palsy to varying degrees of severity. I am mostly independent, while she is entirely bed bound, save for medical appointments and requires assistance in all five ADLs.

The aide who is leaving us has worked with us for about two years, so it is our goal to work on building a consistent and long term relationship with whoever we choose to hire going forward. Jessica and I are both diagnosed on the autism spectrum and we both prefer consistency and routine in our day to day life.

Here's a little bit about the job:

The shift we are looking to fill is a total of 5 hours each day. Typically from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.

Within that window the various tasks that you will be required to complete are cooking us both breakfast, and feeding Jessica by hand, administering Jessica's medications, Showers and bathing, Any garment change that Jessica might need as well as lunch prep and any minor housework required. Jessica also has in home nursing visits two times a week. We are both very laid back people and try to foster a peaceful and smooth working environment. For the most part, we are very flexible, typically any requests you make can be accommodated with enough communication.

Details for each specific task will be discussed in full during an in person interview, but I am open to answering any questions over email or text.

We are looking for somebody with caregiving experience, specifically in regards to Hoyer lift operation. You must either be familiar with the equipment or be willing to be trained as a part of the hiring process.

Personal days and mental health days are always allowed, provided that you give at least 24 hours notice in advance when applicable. Jessica and I understand that emergencies happen, but the more time that we have to secure coverage, The better it is for us and our routine.

You will be paid in cash every Friday for the prior week. You are required to submit a timesheet every Sunday evening that is turned into the main office of New Horizons Village for processing on Monday morning. The village does not have anything to do with the hiring and firing process itself, that is all of our responsibility as residents, but they do issue the checks. As of this past year, you are also required to submit identification to the finance department to prove that you are a real person. Apparently there has been a history of people using fake names, and they have decided to crack down on that per the State of Connecticut Department of Social Services.

The hourly rate is $16.94. Working a full seven days will net you A total of 14 hours from myself, And 19 hours from Jessica for a total of 33 hours each week. Occasionally you will be required to accompany Jessica to her appointments as she cannot operate her wheelchair on her own, Those are an additional four hours for each appointment at the standard rate. Without appointments, your Total net pay for the week Will equal out to $559.02.
