Job Description

ASSISTANT PROJECT MANAGER / PROJECT ENGINEER
SF Bay Area | High-End Residential Construction

CMA Development is a small, growing general contractor based in San Francisco, focused on high-end residential remodels and additions. We work closely with architects and designers and care a lot about getting the details right.

We have several new projects starting in 2026 and are looking to add an Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer to support active jobs from preconstruction through close-out.

WHAT YOU’LL ACTUALLY BE DOING

This is a hands-on support role. You will be responsible for keeping projects organized, accurate, and moving forward day to day.

- Managing RFIs, submittals, selections, and change orders from start to finish
- Keeping budgets, schedules, and logs current in JobTread
- Helping prepare weekly client updates and meeting materials
- Calling subs and vendors to get pricing, clarify scope, and understand costs
- Reviewing field labor time entries and coordinating with the bookkeeper
- Keeping drawings, specs, and files organized and up to date
- Tracking permits, inspections, long-lead items, and punch list items

You’ll work closely with the Principal. You’ll talk with clients and architects, but you won’t be making final budget or scope decisions on your own.

WHO THIS IS A GOOD FIT FOR

- You are very detail-oriented and don’t mind repetitive work
- You like closing loops and keeping things clean and organized
- You’re comfortable supporting decisions even if you’re not the one making them
- You don’t need everything perfectly systemized yet, but you care about improving systems over time
- You’re low ego, reliable, and follow through

WHO THIS IS NOT A GOOD FIT FOR

- If you want to “run the project” right away
- If you hate tracking, documentation, or follow-up
- If you prefer chaos or doing things only in your head

EXPERIENCE

- 3+ years supporting project management in residential construction
- Comfortable reading plans and coordinating with subs and consultants
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Experience with PM software (JobTread a plus)
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

GROWTH

There is room to grow into more responsibility, including a Project Manager role, based on performance and company needs.

PAY & BENEFITS

- Full-time
- Pay negotiable, based on experience
- Benefits provided: PTO, paid holidays, health plan, phone allowance
