Lawn & Garden Dry Goods Specialist - Part Time -Greater Sacramento Area

Must-Have Experience:

This role requires hands-on knowledge and experience with irrigation systems and irrigation component parts, including controllers, valves, heads, drip systems, fittings, and basic troubleshooting. Candidates without irrigation systems experience will not be considered.

About the Role:

We are looking for friendly people who want to work in a dynamic, customer-focused environment and have the opportunity to share their lawn and garden dry goods products expertise. The ideal candidate has many years of first-hand knowledge and experience with lawn and garden dry goods products and solutions, including fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides, as well as a strong functional knowledge of irrigation systems and parts. The Lawn & Garden Dry Goods Specialist works as part of our store team to help improve service to our customers, increase our sales by engaging with and sharing knowledge with our customers, and facilitate knowledge development for store associates.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Provide expert guidance to retail customers on our full range of lawn and garden dry goods products offered – this includes products such as fertilizers, pesticides, and insecticides, irrigations systems and parts, and tools and other landscape supply products – to support our mission of helping customers be successful and to drive sales
• Drive topline growth by providing knowledgeable expertise to customers during our highest customer traffic hours
• Serve as the in-store lawn and garden dry goods and irrigation expert for both customers and staff
• Ask diagnostic questions to understand customer needs and knowledgeably recommend our products; similarly, troubleshoot customer issues and explain product solutions clearly and confidently in ways that customers can understand
• Actively sell irrigation components including controllers, valves, heads, drip systems, fittings, pumps, and smart technology; ideally, promote and sell complete solutions, not just individual parts
• Interpret basic irrigation plans, zone layouts, and controller programming needs to help customers obtain all needed components from Green Acres
• Build strong relationships with repeat customers, including contractors and landscapers
• Develop strong partnership with Contractor Sales associates – actively support development of strong relationships with contractors and landscapers, assist with needs and recommendations, and help drive repeat business and increased sales
• Assist with product knowledge training and mentoring of other retail staff to develop overall skills and knowledge
• Assist customers at the registers and process sales transactions accurately and efficiently
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional sales floor

Requirements:

• 5+ years’ experience selling lawn and garden dry goods products (fertilizers, pesticides, insecticides, soils and amendments, irrigation systems and parts, etc.); must include experience selling irrigation solutions systems and components
• Deep knowledge of lawn and garden dry goods products, including irrigation systems and components, with demonstrated ability to share accurate knowledge in a customer friendly manner
• Proven retail sales experience with a strong customer-service mindset
• Willingness to recommend store products vs “home” remedies
• Ability to communicate technical information to customers and co-workers in a clear, approachable manner
• Comfortable standing for extended periods and working in a fast-paced retail environment
• Irrigation certification(s) such as IA Certified Irrigation Technician or Designer ideal
• Experience working with contractors or professional landscape clients preferred
• Passionate about engaging with customers and sharing knowledge with others
• Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays

Hours & Shifts:

This is a part-time position scheduled during our highest customer traffic times. Employees can expect to work 4-5 hour shifts between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., with some weekend availability, and average 20-25 hours per week depending on the time of year.

Compensation & Benefits:

The Lawn & Garden Dry Goods Specialist position is hourly, non-exempt, with a wage range of $23.00 – $30.00 per hour. Employees qualify for paid sick leave and paid holidays and will be eligible for employee discounts.
