Water Utility Contractor Lead Person in Beltsville, MD.

Pay rate: $35-$39/HR. DOE

Job Summary
The Water Utility Contractor Lead Person assists in directing daily field operations for water utility construction and maintenance projects. This position works hands-on with the crew while providing leadership, guidance, and technical expertise to ensure work is performed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. The Lead Person acts as the point of contact in the foreman’s absence and supports productivity and quality in the field.

Primary Jobsite locations:
Northern Virginia, Montgomery County MD, Prince George's County, MD, Washington DC

Key Responsibilities:
Lead and work alongside crew members on water utility construction and repair activities, including:
-Water mains, service lines, valves, hydrants, and related appurtenances
-Assist in planning daily work tasks and organizing manpower and equipment
-Provide direction to crew members on proper work methods and safety practices
-Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, trench safety, and company policies
-Set up and maintain safe work zones, including traffic control and excavation safety
-Read and interpret plans, utility maps, and job specifications
-Identify potential jobsite issues and communicate them to the foreman or project manager
-Monitor work quality and assist in maintaining production goals
-Train and mentor less experienced crew members
-Perform skilled labor tasks as required
-Maintain a clean, organized, and professional jobsite

Qualifications:
-High school diploma or GED preferred
-2–4+ years of experience in water utility construction
-Demonstrated ability to lead small crews and work independently
-Strong working knowledge of water distribution systems and construction methods
-Ability to read basic blueprints and utility layouts
-Valid driver’s license required (CDL preferred, if applicable)

Certifications (Preferred or Required)
-WSSC Tapping certification (Preferred)
-OSHA 10 or 30 (Preferred)
-Trench Safety / Competent Person (Preferred)
-Confined Space Entry (Preferred)
-First Aid / CPR (Preferred)

Schedule:
Monday to Friday: 7AM- 3:30 PM Pay Frequency: Weekly

Entrance into UNION after 90 days with UNION rates.
