Job Overview
National Electrical Engineering Consultants LLC is hiring experienced Substation Leads to take command of field operations across our commercial and utility-scale projects. This leadership role requires a highly skilled electrician with deep technical knowledge and proven experience managing crews, coordinating with project managers, and ensuring substation builds are executed safely, on schedule, and to spec. This is a 100% travel position, operating on a 3-weeks-on, 1-week-off rotation. If you thrive in high-energy environments and can lead by example under pressure, we want to hear from you.

Visit neengineer.com to learn more about our mission and capabilities.Key ResponsibilitiesProvide direct, on-site leadership for substation projects from mobilization to completionSupervise and mentor field electricians and subcontractorsInterpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and specifications with expert-level proficiencyOversee installation, testing, and commissioning of substation componentsEnsure all work is performed in compliance with NEC, OSHA, and company safety standardsCoordinate with Project Managers, engineers, and clients to ensure alignment on timelines and milestonesMonitor quality control, track productivity, and proactively resolve issues to avoid project delaysDocument daily progress, safety reports, and time recordsEnforce jobsite discipline and safety culture; lead weekly safety meetingsManage tools, equipment, and inventory control at the project siteRepresent NEEC with professionalism and technical authority in the field
QualificationsMinimum 5 years of experience in substation construction, with at least 2 years in a leadership roleDeep understanding of substation components including switchgear, breakers, regulators, wiring, transformers, and grounding systemsStrong safety knowledge and leadershipStrong team management and communication skillsProficient in reading and interpreting electrical plans and construction drawingsHigh accountability for quality, safety, and schedule performanceMust be highly reliable, detail-oriented, and self-directedValid driver's license and clean driving recordWillingness to travel 100% and work long hours in the field
Preferred QualificationsOSHA 30 CertificationExperience managing electrical utility crewsFamiliarity with utility provider standards and substation commissioning
