Farmers Market Manager
Companion Bakeshop
Farmers markets have been the backbone of Companion Bakeshop since the very beginning. The role of the Market Manager upholds high standards for themselves as manager and for the team: excellent customer service, safe food handling practices, safe driving practices, clean and welcoming booths and an excellent driving record.
We are looking for someone with fresh ideas, experience managing a team, experience in retail and loves people, community and Companion Bakeshop. If this is you, we want to meet you!
Responsibilities & Expectations:
Administrative work
Weekly – work with Financial Operations to ensure tills are prepared
Hiring/onboarding & training, including scheduling van driving training
Building & publishing the schedule and working to find solutions for coverage
Use waste calculation sheets weekly / bi-weekly to submit bread/pastry numbers, adjusting for rain/holidays/seasons, etc.
Working with Financial Operations & Owner to complete annual market membership applications.
Working with Owner and Facilities & Delivery to keep van driver list on insurance current.
Market equipment inventory/maintenance:
Ensure the market booth setups all look professional and organized and adhere to food safety protocols.
Working with a team to ensure equipment is fully stocked, informational binders are current (permits, ingredients lists, etc), replacing broken items, etc.
Creating SOPs for ensuring the above
Coordinating equipment cleaning shifts
Van Maintenance – Work with Facilities & Delivery Manager ensure all van maintenance is handled
Van Rentals – ensuring coordination of van rentals, as needed, seasonal markets, canceling rentals for holidays, etc and making sure the driver list is current.
Product supervision – work with the Culinary Director to ensure product display, signage, etc is effective.
Work with the Marketing manager to ensure signage is consistent with branding.
Paper Goods – ensure paper goods are stocked weekly.
Team Communication
Sending emails/Homebase messages to the team for team updates, weekly needs, new SOPs, etc.
Communication on ensuring market booths are set up to standard at each market
Team Bonding/Morale Boosting - contribute ideas for boosting morale, helping to organize team meetings, etc.
Present ideas and suggestions / solutions to problems to proper department heads, and implement approved ideas – regarding shift times, efficiency of tasks, etc.
Requirements:
Must work a minimum of 4 days per week total, and a minimum of 3 market shifts per week year round (extra day is for admin)
Must be responsible and organized
Must be able to problem solve on the spot and think clearly
Stay current with all team communication as necessary
Must be able to lift 50lbs
Upholds high standards for yourself as manager and for the team: excellent customer service, safe food handling practices, safe driving practices, clean and welcoming booth
Must have a clean driving record
Best versus average candidate
Must have a current CA driver’s license, and maintained one for at least 6 years
