Position Description:

Friendly, detail-oriented, and organized team member sought for part-time staff assistant role in the Friends of the Elephant Seal Visitor Center. Duties include welcoming visitors, retail sales, online order processing, and inventory.
The successful candidate must bring retail experience, computer proficiency, excellent customer service skills, the ability to work collaboratively with a team, and a love of the ocean. Will provide training on the northern elephant seal, other marine mammals and local marine life, and the natural and cultural resources of the area.

Hours and Schedule:

This part-time position involves 4-5 days a week from 9:45am-4:15pm including regularly scheduled shifts on weekends and holidays. Daily shift times may be adjusted with staffing needs. Pay $19.00 per hour.

Health and Safety Requirements:

As a cooperating association with California State Parks, our organization is in compliance with SLO county health and safety guidelines.

Minimum Position Qualifications:

- Minimum age 18 years
- Minimum high school diploma or general education degree; college preferred
- Retail experience preferred
- Ability to work collaboratively with a team
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail
- Commitment to providing excellent customer service
- Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks/projects
- Proficiency in MS Office - Excel and Word
- Own transportation and valid CA Driver's license required
- Availability to work both weekday and weekend shifts
- Background check

Physical and Environmental Conditions:

- Work requires moderate physical effort in handling light materials up to 30 pounds, in a non-strenuous work environment, for example, pushing/pulling, lifting, stretching, stooping, sorting and shelving merchandise, and loading and unloading packages
- Work involves standing and walking up to 50% of the time
- Work may involve up to 15% of the time outdoors at the Piedras Blancas Elephant Seal rookery in various weather conditions
