Job Description
We are currently seeking an experienced Property Management Accounting Controller for our client located in Santa Monica CA. Our client is an established and growing apartment management firm providing an excellent opportunity for growth.
This position oversees the staff and participates in the activities of the accounting, bookkeeping and payroll department for the accurate and timely dissemination of financial management reports, owner disbursements and ensuring the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable and cash control.
You will establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data, and enhance the company's value. Participate in a wide variety of special projects throughout the year, including year-end analysis and dissemination of information to CPAs and clients for taxes.
Requirements:
5 or more years of recent Property Management Financial experience as a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Bookkeeper or Staff Accountant
BA in Accounting or Finance
CPA optional
Experience with Property Management-specific software
Experience with Microsoft Office
History of and affinity for team leadership
Qualifications:
Demonstrated ability to identify areas for process improvement and create policies and procedures to streamline operations.
Demonstrated ability to develop staff, lead teams, motivate people and gain respect.
Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner.
Demonstrate effective oral and written communication.
Ability to comprehend, analyze and interpret complex business documents, financial reports and concepts.
Demonstrated ability to utilize problem solving skills to achieve stated goals and objectives.
Excellent people skills, both upstream and downstream. Ability to balance tact and discipline.
Excellent time management skills allowing for deadlines to be met.
Essential Functions
Operations:
Responsible for the financial performance of the property management company.
Participation in and/or identification of corporate policies, best practices, and procedural issues in order to streamline operations and maintain the highest level of service.
Responsible for adherence to management agreements and partnership agreements, where applicable.
Review and approval of monthly operating expense reports for all properties and entities.
Ensure that all monthly, quarterly and annual reporting schedules are adhered to.
Review all invoices for proper approval prior to making payments.
Responsible for all cash receipts and their timely and correct allocation.
Responsible for monitoring property level cash flow and ensuring availability of funds to meet property needs.
Responsible to make sure all bank reconciliations are done timely and correctly.
Employee Development:
Responsible for overall morale and teamwork in accounting department.
Responsible for staffing, succession planning, training and employee development for all accounting and bookkeeping staff.
Oversee employee growth and development including goal setting, annual reviews, performance feedback and disciplinary actions.
Resolve conflict with direct reports and ensure conflict is resolved at lower levels of the organization.
Customer Service:
Serve as a primary point of contact with clients and investors. Responsible for creating and maintaining excellent relationships, all client communications and resolving any financial client concerns.
Train all accounting and bookkeeping department personnel on providing quality customer service to ensure the highest standards of customer care are achieved.
Proactively respond to critical feedback from both clients and tenants and assist in resolving escalated client or tenant issues.
$80,000 to $83,000 Commensurate with experience
