As the Associate Director for Clinical Operations, you will be a senior clinical leader responsible for overseeing core counseling services, ensuring high-quality, integrated care, and supporting CAPS’ mission to foster a resilient and thriving campus community through a holistic, student-centered approach.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is a comprehensive, campus-integrated mental health service that delivers individual, group, couples, and crisis counseling, psychological assessment, outreach, and consultation services. CAPS collaborates closely with campus partners to support student success and well-being across Florida State University.




About the Role




The Associate Director for Clinical Operations provides leadership, management, and oversight of CAPS’ clinical services. Serving as a senior member of the management team, this role supports strategic planning, operational decision-making, and continuity of services. The Associate Director ensures clinical excellence, supervises staff and trainees, and contributes directly to student care through counseling, consultation, and outreach.




In the Director’s absence, this role oversees Center operations and supports the coordination of multidisciplinary teams and campus partnerships.




What You’ll Be Doing

Provide management and oversight of CAPS clinical services, ensuring integration and consistency across therapeutic and psychological assessment programs
Directly oversee CAPS after-hours services
Liaise with and coordinate collaborative treatment team meetings with campus partners, including SSRT, University Health Services (UHS), and the FSUPS Advisory Board
Serve as a Senior Management Team member, contributing to administrative decisions, strategic planning, and implementation of departmental goals
Oversee CAPS operations in the absence of the Director
Support systems for clerical and support staff
Assist with recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of multidisciplinary staff and trainees
Provide individual, group, couples, and crisis counseling to FSU students
Consult with parents, faculty, staff, and administrators regarding students of concern
Deliver mental health outreach programming to the FSU campus
Conduct utilization reviews and quality improvement analyses to support effective and timely clinical service delivery
Provide orientation, training, and supervision for interns, practicum students, and staff
Serve as Behavioral Health Consultations Coordinator, providing training and supervision for psychology residents




Qualifications




Required:

Doctoral degree with experience supervising professional staff
Five or more years of professional experience in a clinical and/or counseling setting post licensure
Active Florida Psychology License, or ability to obtain it within 3-6 months

Preferred:

Five years of supervisory leadership experience in university counseling or psychological services
Experience within a large, complex academic institution with a broad scope of student services in a college setting
