Job Description

Boston House Restaurant is seeking an experienced Sous Chef / Kitchen Manager to help lead our culinary team and uphold the standards of quality, consistency, and hospitality that define our historic dining experience.

This role is ideal for a hands-on kitchen professional who thrives on organization, mentorship, and execution. You will work closely with the Executive Chef and management to ensure smooth daily operations, maintain food quality, and lead a disciplined, motivated BOH team.

Key Responsibilities


Kitchen Leadership & Operations

Assist in overseeing daily kitchen operations and service execution

Lead by example during prep and service with a strong on-the-line presence

Maintain consistency, timing, and plating standards across all stations

Step in as acting kitchen lead in the absence of the Executive Chef


Team Management & Training

Train, mentor, and coach line cooks and prep staff

Enforce kitchen standards, cleanliness, and professionalism

Assist with scheduling, coverage, and shift accountability

Promote a respectful, efficient, and team-oriented kitchen culture


Inventory, Ordering & Cost Control

Assist with food ordering, receiving, and inventory management

Monitor food costs, waste, and portion control

Ensure proper storage, labeling, rotation, and product utilization


Food Safety & Compliance

Enforce all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards

Ensure compliance with ServSafe and local health regulations

Maintain clean, organized, and inspection-ready kitchen spaces


Menu Execution & Development

Execute established menus with precision and consistency

Assist with specials, seasonal items, and menu development as needed

Provide feedback on efficiency, prep flow, and recipe execution


Qualifications

Minimum 3–5 years experience in a professional kitchen, including leadership or supervisory responsibilities

Proven ability to lead a kitchen team in a high-volume or upscale environment

Strong knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and kitchen operations

ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)

Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills

Ability to remain calm, focused, and solutions-oriented during service
