Position Summary

Apex is seeking an experienced Underground Wet Utility Pipe Fitter / Pipe Layer to join our field operations team. This role is critical to the successful installation of sanitary sewer, storm drain, and water systems on municipal, public works, and private development projects.

Key Responsibilities

Install underground wet utilities including sewer, storm drain, and water mains

Lay pipe to grade and alignment using lasers, levels, and grade stakes

Install PVC, HDPE, ductile iron, and reinforced concrete pipe (RCP)

Set manholes, vaults, catch basins, and related structures

Perform trench work including bedding, backfill, and compaction

Follow all OSHA trench safety and jobsite safety requirements

Work closely with foremen, equipment operators, and laborers

Maintain high workmanship standards and jobsite cleanliness

Required Qualifications

2–5+ years experience in underground wet utility installation

Strong knowledge of pipe laying methods, grades, and elevations

Ability to read and interpret plans and blueprints

Experience working safely in trenches

Physically able to perform manual labor in outdoor conditions

Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

Public Works / Prevailing Wage project experience

OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification

Confined Space and CPR/First Aid certifications

Ability to assist in leading a small crew

GPS or machine control experience (a plus)
