Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated, and highly skilled Chef de Cuisine to take ownership of our back-of-house operations and lead our talented culinary team. This role is a rare opportunity for a professional who thrives in a dynamic bakery/cafe setting and is ready to drive operational excellence, menu innovation, and quality control. The Chef de Cuisine will work closely with the Owner/Executive Chef to maintain our high standards, mentor staff, and ensure a seamless operation for all our daily services and special events, including our popular "Pizza Mondays".

Key Responsibilities
Culinary Leadership & Menu Development:
Direct and oversee all food preparation and execution, ensuring consistency, quality, and creativity across all offerings (breads, pastries, savory items, and pizzas).
Collaborate with the Owner/Executive Chef to develop new recipes, plan seasonal menus, and create daily/weekly specials that utilize local ingredients.
Maintain accurate recipe cards, plating guides, and presentation standards for all menu items.
Kitchen Management & Operations:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of the baking, prep cook, and dishwasher teams.
Manage purchasing, inventory control, and ordering of supplies to meet financial targets and maintain efficient operations.
Monitor sanitation practices and ensure full compliance with all health and safety regulations.
Inspect all supplies, equipment, and work areas for cleanliness and functionality, addressing maintenance issues promptly.
Team Leadership & Culture:
Hire, train, mentor, and inspire a diverse culinary team, fostering an inclusive, respectful, and professional environment.
Develop staff schedules and manage labor costs effectively.
Uphold Wayward Baking's scratch-cooking philosophy and commitment to quality.

Qualifications
Proven experience as a Chef de Cuisine, Head Cook, or similar leadership role in a professional culinary environment, preferably within a high-volume bakery, cafe, or restaurant setting.
A strong, deep understanding of artisan baking, especially naturally leavened sourdough and laminated doughs, is highly preferred.
Demonstrated knowledge of food handling procedures, sanitation, and safety standards (Food Handler's License required).
Strong leadership skills with the ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
Excellent time management, problem-solving abilities, and an eye for detail and consistency.
Ability to work varied shifts, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 pounds repeatedly.
