Custodian (Night Shift)

OVERVIEW
The State of California, Court of Appeal, Second Appellate District in downtown Los Angeles, is accepting applications for a Custodian. The ideal applicants will possess a high degree of personal integrity. The incumbent will be assigned to the evening shift, from 4:30 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. and will perform janitorial and general building maintenance duties which include keeping assigned areas in a clean, neat, and orderly condition; performing minor building and equipment repair work; and performing other related tasks as assigned. Duties include sweeping, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors, shampooing, and vacuuming carpet; dusting and polishing furniture; emptying waste receptacles; cleaning and sanitizing justices chambers, attorney and staff offices, conference rooms and rest rooms; cleaning mirrors/glass, defrost and clean refrigerators. Moving and arranging furniture and equipment when requested. May be required to wear safety equipment and work daytime when necessary.

Knowledge of:
 Methods, chemicals, disinfectant, and other materials used in janitorial work and routine building maintenance.
 Safe operation of a variety of cleaning equipment and tools.
 Basic office practices and procedures.

Ability to:
 Understand and follow oral and written directions.
 Safely operate a variety of cleaning equipment and tools.
 Lift and move equipment, boxes, furniture, etc. weighing 50 pounds or more.
 Comply with health and safety codes.
 Organize own work, set priorities, and meet critical deadlines.
 Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of the work.
 Clean and care for facilities and equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS
One year of experience performing janitorial and general maintenance work.
May require possession of a valid California driver’s license.

PAY & BENEFITS
SALARY RANGE: $3,555 per month - $4,324 per month
(Starting salary range will be between $3,555 to $3,911)

Please note due to statewide fiscal conditions, the posted salary range is subject to a temporary 3% reduction. In exchange for this reduction, judicial branch employees accrue an additional 5 hours of paid personal leave per month through June 30, 2027.
