Job Description

Torreon Equestrian Center (TEC) in Show Low, AZ is looking for a barn manager. This is live, on-site, full-time position for seven months of the year, mid-April to mid-Nov. Consideration will be given to the right person to remain on-site in the apartment during the winter months with rent to be discussed. You would be a 1099 contract worker, and the ideal candidate would have other income or plans for the winter months. The position provides very nice housing, all utilities, accommodation for up to 2 horses of your own and a salary. The barn manager must live on site. The apartment is currently partially furnished. TEC is a top-notch boarding facility which operates for 6 months during the summer, May through October. Our manager needs to be on site two weeks prior to opening and two weeks after we close. Thus the 7 months of full-time work.

We are looking for the right person to join our team. TEC is home to about 41 horses each summer. Our manager is on staff Monday – Friday and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: good communication skills for friendly interaction with our boarders; feeding AM and PM; cleaning stalls; turnout rotations; light maintenance around the property; keeping barns clean and tidy; dragging turnouts; cleaning the community bathroom; and helping keep the supplies ordered (hay, alfalfa, shavings, etc.). You would work directly with the owner on these items. Additionally, keeping up with board contracts, horses’ needs or changes and minor paperwork. There is also a weekday employee to help with barn cleaning and turnouts. We have weekend managers that totally take care of Saturday and Sunday They live on-site as well.

Qualifications required are previous hands-on horse experience, the ability to assess if a horse is having an issue, for example, colic, strength for physical labor of loading and feeding hay, cleaning stalls, ability to operate a small utility tractor and Bobcat, and a willingness to learn the system we have in place, with a smile.
