Job Description
Job Summary
The Direct Care Staff (DCS) provides hands-on care and support to individuals with developmental disabilities and complex medical needs in a licensed ICF-DDN facility. Under the supervision of licensed nursing staff and facility leadership, the DCS assists residents with activities of daily living, implements individualized program plans, supports health and safety, and promotes dignity, independence, and quality of life in compliance with California Title 22 regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
● Provide direct personal care, including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance
● Assist residents with positioning, transfers, and ambulation using proper body mechanics and adaptive equipment
● Support residents with medical and health-related needs as directed by licensed nurses (e.g., vital signs, documentation, observation of health changes)
● Follow Individual Program Plans (IPPs), Individual Service Plans (ISPs), and behavior support plans
● Observe, document, and report changes in residents’ physical, emotional, or behavioral condition
● Maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary living environment
● Assist with meals, hydration, and special diets as ordered
● Provide supportive supervision and positive behavioral support
● Accurately complete required documentation, logs, and reports
● Follow infection control, emergency procedures, and facility policies
● Protect resident rights, confidentiality, and dignity at all times
● Work collaboratively with nursing staff, administrators, families, and interdisciplinary team members
● Participate in required trainings, meetings, and in-service education
Qualifications
Required:
● Ability to pass background check (DOJ/FBI Live Scan)
● Ability to pass health screening and TB clearance
● CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain upon hire)
● Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Physical ability to perform job duties, including lifting and transferring residents
Preferred:
● Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
● Experience in an ICF-DDN, healthcare, or residential care setting
● DSP, CNA, or related caregiving experience
● High school diploma or GED
Physical Requirements
● Ability to lift, push, and pull up to [50] pounds with or without assistance
● Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach throughout the shift
● Ability to respond to emergencies and provide physical assistance when needed
