Job Description
Jersey Scoops is seeking a skilled and dedicated Production Assistant to help craft high-quality ice cream and other dairy products. This role is pivotal in maintaining health compliance standards, making exceptional and consistent products, and providing assistance throughout our dairy production processes. The ideal candidate will have a background and enthusiasm for culinary arts, has strong attention to detail and enjoys working in a team environment. We are willing to develop someone from intern seasonally into a full time role.
Responsibilities:
1. Ice Cream Base and Flavor Preparation:
- Skillfully incorporate ingredients into dairy/ non-dairy base mixes, considering flavor profiles and product specifications as outlined by our protocols.
- Prepare variegates and inclusions for use in our products. (Caramels, Sauces, Cookies, Nuts, Baked goods…et al.)
- Operate, monitor, and transfer to and from machines that produce/package dairy and non-dairy products.
- 2. Quality Control:
- Conduct quality checks on ingredients to ensure freshness and adherence to rigorous quality and health standards.
- Maintain the standard for consistency, texture, and taste of all products to guarantee optimal product quality.
-Collaborate with the Production team to refine and create new flavors and recipes.
3. Health and Safety Compliance:
- Keep compliance with health regulations, sanitation protocols, and food safety guidelines by maintaining a current Food Handler Certification
- Follow the standards set by our Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety Plan which include maintaining a clean and sanitary environment at all times.
- Follow proper procedures for handling of dairy and non-dairy bases, ingredients in and around food contact and non-food contact surfaces.
-Maintain high standards of personal hygiene including clean clothing, proper hair restraints, and personal cleanliness in accordance with food safety requirements.
- Immediately reporting any food safety concerns to management.
4. Team Work and Collaboration:
- Participate in a collaborative and positive work atmosphere through teamwork, personal accountability and effective communication to all Jersey Scoop team members.
-Be open and willing to actively problem solve and possibly pivot through adverse or challenging situations that routinely arise through production.
5. Inventory:
- Assist in taking inventory of products and ingredients. Alerting team members when inventory may be expiring or have expired.
- Maintain clean and organized storage spaces while taking into account possible allergen cross contamination.
6. Documentation and Reporting:
- Fill out and complete tasks as outlined by checklists and forms (Opening, closing, machine, sanitation and temperature).
- Communicate any deviations, challenges, or improvements to the management in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
- 6 months experience in culinary arts or other related food service preferred.
- Current California Food Handlers Certification .
- Exceptional attention to detail and ability to maintain consistent product quality.
- Excellent time management skills to follow production schedules.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and adaptability to address unexpected challenges.
- Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts and adapt to changing production demands.
- Physical capability to stand, walk, lift heavy items (up to 60 lbs), and work in a dairy production environment for long periods during the production shift repeatedly.
