Job Description

Beth Meyer Synagogue, a Conservative Jewish house of prayer and learning community in Raleigh, North Carolina, invites applications for full-time work as our Hospitality Manager. Responsible for the ‘member experience’ at Jewish holiday celebrations and social nights, the Hospitality Manager is our culinary and event management lead, overseeing food and beverage service, event logistics, and atmosphere, from planning to execution. This job is a great fit for someone who enjoys hosting guests!

Email your résumé to jobs@bethmeyer.org to apply. Consistent availability to work on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. is a must.

Job Responsibilities:
• Catering Operations. Creatively prepare and serve food and beverages at recurring weekend and holiday programs and special events, engaging volunteers whenever possible; execute meal set-up and take-down and direct waitstaff team as appropriate. Twice a month, cater 60-80 individually-portioned meals for Jewish seniors and families facing isolation and/or food insecurity.
• Kitchen Care. Direct the maintenance and care of a kosher community kitchen and continuously improve guest users’ experiences; serve as primary contact for catering inquiries. Shop and stock the pantry with food, compostables, and linens sufficient for recurring and special program needs.
• Program Management. Partner with clergy, staffpersons, and volunteers to design and implement high-touch experiences to bond our members, from weekend lunches to summer picnics; execute day-of coordination, staff guidance, and registration management.

Qualifications:
1. 2+ years of consistent, substantial job experience are required.
2. Professional or volunteer experience with hospitality or event management, and/or experience cooking or serving in a restaurant or community kitchen, is strongly preferred.
3. Basic knowledge of Judaism and proficiency with Microsoft Office products are pluses.
4. Beth Meyer Synagogue prioritizes demonstration of these work behaviors:
• Scenario planning and real-time adaptation — our work demands consideration of things that can go wrong and flexibility as circumstances change.
• Self-directed execution of multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision.
• Customer service — this is not a ‘back of house’ position.
• Email savvy — we count on our teammates to write effectively and self-edit.
• Willingness to accept extra duties to support synagogue operations.
5. Beth Meyer Synagogue is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates of diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply for this job.
