Job Description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Asphalt Estimator to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating project requirements and preparing accurate, competitive cost estimates for various asphalt paving, repair, and maintenance projects, including parking lots, roadways, and commercial sites. This role requires a strong understanding of materials, labor, and equipment costs to ensure the profitability of all projects.
Key Responsibilities
Estimate and Bid Preparation: Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates and formal bids for asphalt projects by analyzing blueprints, specifications, and project plans.
Site Evaluation: Conduct pre-bid site visits to assess job conditions, gather measurements, and identify potential risks or issues that may impact costs or timelines.
Cost Analysis: Calculate material, labor, and equipment costs, performing detailed quantity take-offs as required.
Vendor and Subcontractor Coordination: Solicit and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to ensure competitive pricing and project compliance.
Client Communication: Work closely with clients to explain proposals, answer questions, and ensure satisfaction, fostering strong relationships.
Collaboration: Coordinate with project managers and field teams to ensure a smooth transition from the bidding phase to project execution.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain a cost database, track the status of ongoing estimates, and prepare reports for management review.
Compliance: Ensure all estimates and proposals adhere to safety, environmental, and local regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Experience: A minimum of 2-5 years of experience in asphalt paving, construction management, or a similar estimating role is generally required.
Education: A Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field is preferred, though equivalent experience and training can be considered.
Skills:
Strong mathematical and analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., HCSS HeavyBid, Bid2Win, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite (especially Excel).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical specifications.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines.
Requirements: A valid driver's license and the ability to travel to various job sites are essential.
