Job Description

Company: Remote Home Check
Location: Remote (U.S. preferred)
Time Commitment: ~15 hours/week (flexible schedule)
Type: Internship
Compensation: Phantom Equity only (no cash compensation to start)
Future Option: If milestones are successfully completed, there may be an opportunity to transition into a paid full-time role (not guaranteed)

Read this first (important)

This is a Phantom Equity–only internship. There is no salary, no hourly pay, and no cash stipend for this role.
We are offering a structured, milestone-based Phantom Equity opportunity for a QA Test / Dev Specialist who wants meaningful ownership and upside tied directly to execution.

Why this role exists

Remote Home Check is building a non-invasive, camera-free senior monitoring platform that turns passive sensor signals into actionable health insights and real-time alerts for families and care teams. Quality and reliability matter—because the product is safety-adjacent and trust-based.

We need a QA/Test-minded builder who can help us design a real quality system early: testing discipline, automation where it counts, and crisp defect triage that improves engineering speed.

What you’ll do

Own quality across critical workflows:

Build a risk-based test plan (what can break, how it breaks, how we catch it)

Write clear test cases for core flows: alerts, caregiver notifications, escalation logic, dashboard insights, integrations

Create a regression checklist that’s usable for every release

Introduce automation where it matters most:

Build a small but powerful automated suite (Playwright/Cypress + API tests) focused on critical paths

Help set up CI-friendly test runs and basic “quality gates”

Improve reproducibility: logs, steps, expected vs actual behavior

Partner with engineering and product:

Convert vague requirements into testable acceptance criteria

Write excellent bug reports (severity, reproduction, evidence, suspected root cause)

Reduce churn by catching issues earlier

Milestones (how Phantom Equity is earned)

Phantom equity is earned upon successful completion of defined milestones such as:

A documented QA strategy + release checklist + severity rubric

A regression suite for the highest-risk workflows

A minimum automated “smoke test” pack that runs reliably

A repeatable bug triage process with clear reporting

(Exact milestone definitions are finalized at onboarding so expectations are explicit.)

What success looks like (first 30–60 days)

Releases become more predictable—fewer “surprise” breakages

Critical paths are tested (manually + automated smoke coverage)

Defects are discovered earlier, with clearer evidence and faster resolution

Team velocity improves without sacrificing trust

Ideal background

Experience in QA, SDET, or test-heavy development work

Familiar with test automation tools (Playwright/Cypress/Selenium) and API testing

Strong systems thinking: edge cases, failure modes, reliability

Bonus: healthcare/PHI awareness, IoT/sensor data pipelines, alerting/escalation systems

The opportunity (why someone should do this)

This internship is for someone who wants:

Real ownership of a mission-driven product

A defined path to earn Phantom Equity through measurable execution

The possibility—if milestones are successfully completed—to be considered for a paid full-time role as the company scales (again: not guaranteed)
