Job Description
About Us:
Established in 2002, Common Grace is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children in Hawaii's public schools. Our mission is simple yet profound: to serve Compassion, Attention, Kindness, and Encouragement (C.A.K.E.) to keiki through one-on-one mentorship. Our Mālama Mentors program trains and pairs caring high school students and adults with elementary and middle school students who need someone to believe in them. Each week, mentors and mentees meet for one hour over 21-25 weeks, building genuine relationships that change lives.
The Role:
The Area School Partnership Coordinator (SPC) is the heartbeat of our mentoring program across multiple schools. You'll facilitate weekly mentoring sessions, train and mentor high school leaders, build relationships with school partners, and ensure every child in your care experiences the transformative power of CAKE. This isn't a desk job. This is boots-on-the-ground work where you'll see immediate impact every single week.
Type: Part-Time (25-30 hours/week)
Location: Various schools across Oahu
Reports To: Program Manager
Compensation: $20-$22/hour
What You'll Do:
Mentorship Program Facilitation (50%)
● Lead weekly 1-hour mentoring sessions across up to 4 school partnerships
● Create an inviting, safe, fun, and orderly environment for 10-12 mentor-mentee pairs per site
● Manage student behavior with compassion and clarity
● Take accurate attendance for 20+ participants across multiple sites
● Manage equipment, materials, and supplies for each school
● Complete weekly reflection journals to track progress and celebrate wins
Leadership Development (30%)
● Train and mentor up to 8 high school Co-Captains across your partnerships
● Provide weekly guidance, resources, and support for their leadership growth
● Debrief with Co-Captains before or after every session (10+ minutes)
● Communicate regularly with mentor teams to prepare for upcoming sessions
● Model CAKE values in every interaction
Recruitment & Outreach (10%)
● Lead Official Recruitment efforts in August at high schools
● Spearhead Pre-Recruitment in April to secure next year's mentors
● Oversee mentor/mentee recruitment, interviews, selection, and matching
● Follow up with absent mentors and find replacements when needed
● With the help of the Program Manager, facilitate Parent Orientations to build trust and credibility
Partnership Management (10%)
● Serve as the main point of contact for Mālama Mentors at your schools
● Connect with principals at least once per semester
● Collaborate with School Champions on recruitment, logistics, and problem-solving
● Build organic connections with parents and guardians
● Coordinate with afterschool programs for pick-up/drop-off schedules
● Debrief with school leadership each semester
Requirements
Non-Negotiables:
● Valid Hawaii driver's license with clean driving record
● Reliable transportation (you'll travel between 4 school sites)
● Available 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM on weekdays
● Available for monthly Saturday meetings (10 AM – 1 PM, last Saturday of each month)
● Comfortable lifting 25 pounds (supply bins, materials)
● Pass background check and fingerprinting
Skills & Experience:
● Experience working with children, teens, or in youth development (strongly preferred)
● Leadership or supervisory experience (strongly preferred)
● Comfortable with public speaking and recruitment
● Basic tech skills (Google Sheets, Forms, email, calendar)
● Ability to work with diverse populations
● Sound judgment in emergencies
Schedule & Commitment
Weekly:
● 2-4 mentoring sessions (afternoons, 2:00-4:30 PM)
● Co-Captain debriefs and prep meetings
● Weekly check-ins with Program Manager
● Total: 25-30 hours/week
Monthly:
● SPC meeting (last Saturday of the month, 10AM – 1PM)
Throughout the Year:
● 6 special events: Grad Gratitude (May/June), All-Stars (July), Winter Event (December), Spring Event (March), Last Day of Mentoring Party (May)
● Recruitment periods (August and April)
Program Cycle: August – May (21-25 mentoring sessions)
What You'll Gain
● Direct impact: Watch kids transform week by week right in front of you
● Leadership development: Mentor the next generation of teen leaders
● Meaningful relationships: Build connections with keiki, mentors, and school communities
● Professional growth: Develop skills in program management, youth work, and community partnership
● Supportive team: Work alongside passionate staff who genuinely care about you and the mission
● Flexible part-time hours: Perfect for students, parents, or those seeking meaningful work without full-time commitment
