Job Description
Caregiver/ Companion/ Nanny/ Attendant
Urgent Need! Filling position from 7:00 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday and 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m. Sunday
The right person will know the minute they read the ad. They will be eager to share what it is that makes them certain of the fit. If that's you, then PLEASE help us find you in the stack of resumes by including a couple of sentences to share the connection you felt.
This position involves helping a charming, motivated, intelligent, 32-year-old girl with Cerebral Palsy lead a "normal" life. The young woman needing care requires a wheelchair and has impaired vision (her vision is fine socially, but reading gives her migraines). Other than that, she is healthy, fit and active. She is 4'9" tall, weighs 93 lbs. and is a joy to be around.
Duties include helping her:
- with bathing, personal care, and hygiene
- transition to/from her wheelchair, bed, floor, etc.
- driving to/from activities, college, youth group, social visits and errands
- reach and do what she can't, including heating and setting up for meals
- set up for homework with occasional reading assignments
- exercise (swimming, walking in gate trainer, cycling, floor exercises, stretching)
- chores (maintaining her room, bathroom, laundry, and her dishes in the kitchen);
- enrichment activities (e. g., finding/reading books, movies, outings with friends).
Requirements:
- Personal Compatibility/Good Company - The vast majority of time is spent doing things together. Outgoing, active, positive people thrive in this position.
- Pleasant and Calm - Cerebral Palsy is a spastic disorder that acts up with tension. The young woman needs the security of pleasant and calming company.
- Observant and Considerate - The young woman needs to be monitored for stress, and for needs that may be socially awkward to ask for in public.
- Reliable and Punctual - Her parents are counting on the attendants so they can get to their own jobs on time.
- Strength/Health - Attendants need to be able to assist her with transitions without risking injury to themselves or her.
- Safe Driver - A wheelchair van and auto insurance are provided, but she needs to be safe riding with the attendants.
- Females - Sorry guys, but the highly personal nature of this job restricts it to women.
