Job Description
Sidran Law Corporation is a civil litigation defense firm who specializes in representing companies in employment, consumer protection, business disputes, real estate, construction, property damage and personal injury claims. We are dedicated to providing strategic and cost-effective counsel to our clients. For more information, see our website at wwwsidranlaw.com.
Job Description - Sidran Law Corp is seeking a highly motivated civil litigation associate to join our team. This associate will have access to a caliber of opportunities and talent learning from senior litigators. An ideal candidate is a self-starter and ready to pick up the ins and outs of litigation. This position is for someone who wants to become an experienced litigator, with dozens of depositions, motion practice and court appearances (which are now mostly remote). Also, an ideal candidate is practical, collaborative and resourceful and values building a strong litigation foundation. This position can graduate into handling binding and nonbinding arbitrations, as well as bench and jury trials for the candidate motivated to become a trial lawyer.
While the position is 100% remote, the candidate must reside in one of the following locations (listed in order of preference) to handle in-person appearances as needed: San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles/Orange County, California Central Valley, San Diego, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas or Reno.
Key Responsibilities
· Being a strategic legal advisor to clients in formulating and executing litigation and discovery plans.
· Taking and defending depositions of parties, witnesses and experts.
· Court appearances (e.g. case management conferences, trial setting hearings, settlement conferences, etc.) and appearances at mediations.
· Drafting, opposing and arguing dispositive and discovery motions.
· Crafting discovery requests and responses.
· Communicate well with opposing counsel, negotiating settlements and other aspects of litigation.
· Drafting settlement agreements and releases.
· Serving as the day-to-day key litigator in preparation for civil jury trial and private arbitrations.
· Handling case management (with the help of a supervising attorney) from pre-litigation demands to post-trial motions (learning the full lifeline of litigation).
Qualifications
· California bar license in good standing (additional license to practice in Nevada is a plus but not required).
· 0 – 10 years of legal experience. Salary commensurate with experience.
· This position can be part-time or full-time and is 100% remote and requires residency near a major metro area in California or Nevada to enable personal appearances for court hearings, depositions, mediations, etc., in the attorney’s locale as needed.
· This will start out as an independent contractor position for a probationary period of 180 days, at which point the attorney will be reviewed for a full-time position with benefits, including health insurance and 401k benefits or a continued part-time contractor role for someone who needs the flexibility.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, Adobe Pro, Excel, and Zoom.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills and the ability to prioritize deadlines and tasks.
· Mature interpersonal skills and a professional, team-oriented mindset.
· Familiarity with the California and Federal Rules of Civil Procedure, Rules of Evidence and substantive tort and contract law is essential.
