Log Scaler

Summary:
Trinity River Lumber Company is recruiting for their Log Scaling team.

Work Site: This position will be based at 3000 South 7th Ave. Oroville, California.

Responsibilities:
Scaling and grading by utilizing the official log scaling rules for Scribner Short Log Decimal C.
Determine gross and net board feet of logs presented.
Use scaling handheld to enter defects and codes. Mark out log species, culls, log sorts , buck logs and operate a chainsaw.
Needs to professionally interact with regulatory agencies and mutual business professionals.
Represent the company in a professional and positive manner.
Print out load tickets and check for errors daily.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 3 years of log scaling experience.
Proficient in distinguishing various log species and in scaling of Douglas Fir, Hem White Fir, Redwood, Pine and Cedar.
Strong math skills, addition, multiplication, subtraction, division in all units of measure.
Must have the ability to tape log lengths, take log end diameters and enter data into a scaling handheld accurately.
Proficient in Excel, Word and Outlook.
Ability to use customized inventory control software and similar software programs, keyboarding and have knowledge of scaling computers.
Valid driver’s license required.
Ability to set priorities, meet goals and objectives.
Positive demeanor and ability to function within a team while following all safety protocols.
Ability to multi-task in a fact paced environment.
Excellent communication skills.
Proficient computer and math skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively solve problems.
Must be able to work in all weather conditions (heat or rain) for long periods of time.
Ability to lean over and walk around loads of logs.
Needs to have the ability to work long hours in peak times during the season.
May need to work at other Company locations when needed.

Trinity River Lumber Co. may consider an applicant with no prior experience if the applicant demonstrates a strong desire to learn the scaling process. Position level and pay is dependent on experience. Accepting applications until the position is filled.
The hourly pay range for this position is $26.46 - $30.17.
