Security / Barback — 21+ Bar

Position Summary
The Security / Barback is a dual-role position responsible for maintaining a safe environment while supporting bar operations. This employee serves as the first point of contact for guests, verifies identification, monitors patron behavior, prevents disturbances, and assists bartenders with stocking, cleaning, and operational tasks.

This role balances hospitality and safety — a visible security presence and a support member of the bar team.

Legal Compliance Responsibilities (California)
Verify all guests are 21+ using valid government-issued identification
Refuse entry to intoxicated persons (CA Business & Professions Code 25602)
Prevent overservice situations and notify bartenders/management
Maintain safe occupancy levels per Fire Code
Document incidents, removals, and injuries
Cooperate with law enforcement or regulatory inspections

Security Duties
Check IDs and detect fake IDs
Deny entry to minors, intoxicated guests, or banned patrons
Monitor bar, restrooms, patio, and exterior
De-escalate conflicts and escort guests out when necessary
Contact emergency services when required
Complete incident reports

Barback Duties
Restock beer, liquor, wine, and mixers
Change kegs and refill ice
Wash and polish glassware
Clean spills and remove trash
Support bartenders during high volume
Assist opening and closing duties

Required Qualifications
21+ years old
RBS Certification (or obtain within required timeframe)
Ability to obtain or possess CA BSIS Guard Card
Strong communication and customer service skills
Availability nights and weekends

Physical Requirements
Stand/walk 6–8+ hours
Lift 50+ lbs
Work in loud crowded environment
Safely escort resisting individuals
